April is Clark County Fair month, this year from the 9th through the 12th. What a great outing for youngsters and oldsters, and just a brief jaunt to Logandale, accessible either via I15 North or North Shore Road around Lake Mead. Call for information, 888-876-FAIR, or search online for Clark County Fair Logandale.

Mark your calendar for the first in a series of FREE CONCERTS right here in the Boulder City Library Amphitheatre; funded by a grant from El Dorado Energy with additional sponsorship from the City of Boulder City and Friends of the Arts. Thanks Andrea Anderson for coordinating and booking these concerts! April 18 at 7:00 pm is first in the series. The CSN Concert Band performs, comprised primarily of professional musicians. Come out early, bring a picnic and enjoy spring in Beautiful Boulder City! For more information, call 293-9358. Upcoming dates include May 16, 7:30 pm, BC’s own Blue Grass Band, Out of the Desert; June 5, 7:30 pm, Las Vegas Brass Band; and September 19, 7:30 pm, Marty Warburton’s Blue Grass Band.

The Planetarium at the Cheyenne Campus of College of Southern Nevada is still one of the best values in town. Admission is only $6 per person; the child/student/senior rate is $4. Shows are Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening. For show titles and times, call 651-4759; yet another Southern Nevada activity for all ages!

Neat Nevada Notes: Searchlight, a small community about 45 minutes south of Boulder City on Hwy 95 is home town to U.S. Senator Harry Reid, current majority leader in the Senate. Founded in 1898, both gold and silver were mined there. Several hundred residents are spread over a bit more than 13 square miles. Searchlight is home to Nevada Historical Marker 116, Searchlight Historic Museum & Historic Mining Park, and without a doubt the ultimate Chicken Fried Steak at the Searchlight Nugget Casino on Hwy. 95.
