Reid Report
by Senator Harry Reid
Senate Majority Leader

Working Together
As this year draws to a close, I am grateful to the hundreds of Nevadans who volunteered their time for the election and came out to the polls on Election Day. I am honored to serve Nevada in the United States Senate for another term, and will continue to fight for the issues that are important to Boulder City and Nevadans across the State.

I understand the concerns of the local community as the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge opens and have been working with Mayor Roger Tobler and the Boulder City Council on a solution that will remove truck traffic from downtown Boulder City.  I am continuing to fight for federal funding for the Bypass and working with the Federal Highway Administration to ensure that it is appropriately prioritized.

In the coming year the Affordable Care Act will continue to bring new benefits to Boulder City, especially to those who are retired.   In fact, seniors will annually save $500 on prescription drugs as we continue to close the Medicare prescription doughnut hole. The new law also created the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program to ensure that retirees, not yet eligible for Medicare, will receive affordable health care. Soon Boulder City seniors will start receiving their free annual doctor visits.

While the Recovery Act has accomplished much, including road and highway construction jobs across the State, weatherization training and jobs improving hundreds of municipal buildings and homes, and tax cuts to small businesses that have resulted in thousands of Nevadans getting hired, we must do more. We can increase access to capital for small businesses and support the tax credits that foster new clean energy businesses.

Too many Nevadans facing foreclosure have to fight on the phone to get help, their paperwork is misplaced or incomplete, and their servicer is giving them the runaround. It’s time for this to stop. My office handles thousands of housing cases a month and we will continue to bring homeowners and banks together to find real solutions that keep families in their homes.

My job is to create jobs. I will be hard at work until every Nevadan who is looking for a job can find one and keep living in their own home.
