Handling The Holidays

If you find the holidays a bit stressful and want to recoup some energy or just want to feel better in general, sign up for one or all of our Tai Chi classes.

On Wednesdays and Fridays, we have a morning class from 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. held in South Escalante Park when the weather is nice and when it’s not, the class takes place in the Recreation Department gymnasium, and from 12:45 – 1 p.m. Water Tai Chi is offered at the City Pool.

Beginning Tuesday January 6th, evening classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Multi-Use Building in Broadbent Memorial Park. When you think about it, it’s amazing that over 180 million people worldwide practice Tai Chi everyday! The slow, dance-like speed of Tai Chi creates balance, flexibility and calmness. With an emphasis on deep breathing and using mental imagery, Tai Chi integrates your mind with your body and is very effective at relieving stress. Other exercise dissipates your energy while Tai Chi accumulates it, leaving you feeling refreshed when you finish.

We’ve revamped our acting classes making them broader scoped in nature and adjusted the pricing structure. Youth classes are held Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon and adults on Thursdays from 7 – 9 p.m. Classes are $60 per month and take place at the ABC Park Administration Buildings. Acting classes are a way to expand your creativity and your way of thinking. Professional actors and actresses make it look so easy. The truth is, acting is challenging and builds character. Challenge yourself; treat yourself to an acting class.

The Art Center offers holiday cards created by Art Center Fine Art students. These are wonderful original cards and there are dozens from which to choose. By purchasing these holiday cards, you send a message to our up and coming artists that their efforts are appreciated and marketable. Mark your calendars for December 13th from 3 – 7 p.m. for the Twilight Bazaar. This is your opportunity to purchase some unique handmade gifts. All works are the creation of Art Center instructors and students. December 15 – 19 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. you can drop by the Art Center at 801 Adams Blvd. to purchase gifts and cards.

To ensure you get the amount of holiday cards you need, call Art Center Coordinator Robin Kariam at 293-1612.
