Red Ribbon Campaign
Last month I incorporated the City’s Curfew Ordinance as a point of reference for all of us. I am hopeful that by including the ordinance and making it more available, that we all will have a better understanding of what the law is.

I would be remiss to not carry the curfew discussion one step further. There are consequences for parents and guardians who knowingly condone or simply allow their children to be out past curfew. The ordinance that addresses that aspect states the following:

7-2-2: PARENTS AND GUARDIANS LIABLE FOR CURFEW VIOLATIONS:

It is unlawful for any parent, guardian or other person having legal care, custody and control of any child under the age of eighteen (18) years to allow or permit such child or ward to loiter, wander, stroll or be upon, in or about any of the public streets or other public places in the City, not accompanied by such parent, guardian or other person having legal care, custody and control of such child during the curfew hours as established by Section 7-2-1 of this Chapter.

STOP DUI’s RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN

December marks the kickoff of Stop DUI’s Annual Red Ribbon Campaign. Dating back to the mid-1980s, the Red Ribbon Campaign promotes increased awareness and recognition as to the affects of alcohol and drug impaired drivers and their inevitable propensity to crash. Germane to the problem of alcohol or drug impaired drivers are the collateral devastation they create when they cause a crash. The impact they have on the lives of the survivors is incomprehensible to many of us. This holiday season I implore you to take a look around you, imagine life without the person sitting across from you at the dinner table. Imagine what life would be like if that loved one’s life was taken by an impaired driver. Approximately every 15 minutes a life is lost as a direct result of an impaired driver. If you would like a Red Ribbon to tie to your vehicle, please call us and we will see that you have one.

Throughout this holiday season please drive defensively and sober. Enjoy the holiday season and ensure you have a “Sober” designated driver.

Stay safe and happy holidays.
