The Boulder City Art Center
The Boulder City Art Center, now in its sixth year of operation, strives to stimulate the interest of the community by offering a wide variety of classes and special events all year long. The Center’s main purpose has been and continues to be the promotion of the importance of the arts. The Center is a part of the Boulder City Parks & Recreation Department.

The Art Center is located in ABC Park, 801 Adams Boulevard, nestled at the southern portion of the park property across from the Youth Center, the Parks & Recreation Administration Buildings and the Fitness Center. Park views from the Art Center add a perfect touch for artists searching for an extra bit of creativity and inspiration in their work.

Try some pottery throwing, tile art, drawing, south-western ceramics, glass classes, bead making, watercolor/pastel techniques… the list of classes offered by talented and experienced instructors goes on and on at the Art Center. For those who have a particular art interest, the Boulder City Art Center instructors can arrange one-on-one studio time.

Beginning July 7 and continuing through July 11, 2008, the annual Holiday Card Class will be offered for youngsters ages 7 through 16. Cards are as creative as a student’s imagination! The cost of this class is only $25. These creations are then sold - there’s no specific price, donations only - at the Boulder Dam Credit Union, the Parks & Recreation Center and the Art Center, during November and December.

Another summer offering at the Art Center includes Pottery Throwing, beginning the week of July 7 and again the week of August 4, 2008. Classes for ages 16 through adult are offered on Monday (beginning July 7) or Wednesday (beginning July 9) from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.; or Wednesday (beginning July 9) from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Classes for ages 13 through adult are offered on Thursday (beginning July 10) from 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Two free labs are included with each pottery class and are held at the Art Center. The cost of one class per week for a month is $45. A $25 materials fee is charged as needed.

There is also a Bead Class on Mondays starting July 7 through July 21 and Wednesdays, July 9 through July 30 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.; and on Wednesdays from August 6 through August 20, 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Here you will learn beading stitches and the various types of beads used to create two fabulous necklaces integrating natural stones, Swaroski crystals and sterling silver findings. Class is geared toward ages 16 and older. The cost of each four-week session is $20 plus a $15 materials fee.

To round out the variety of classes offered during the summer, there will be a Beginner Glass Class for those ages 12 through 15. This class offers students their first experience at painting on glass and is structured especially for middle school youngsters who have taken Coordinator Robin Kariam’s Fine Art Class. Students will also make five cabochons. The class runs from August 4 through August 7 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the Art Center. Cost of the class is $20 plus a $5 material fee.

And for those ages 16 and older, there will be a Beginner Glass Class where students will make five cabochons, one cracked glass bowl, one wall hanging and one slumped dish. This class runs from August 11 through August 14 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at the Art Center. Cost of the class is $35 plus a $10 material fee.
