Dance Etc... Inspiring the Community Through Dance
by Anna Lawson

Since 1979, Dance Etc… has been moving the community of Boulder City. I am in my tenth dance season as the owner of Dance Etc… and time flies when you are having fun! Our "little pink studio" is considered a second home to many of our young citizens. We take pride in not only teaching the art of dance, but also shaping the young lives in this community to achieve their goals and dreams. We provide quality dance instruction six days a week by our most caring and wonderful, professional staff of instructors. Each instructor brings so much knowledge to our students, preparing them for the world of dance.

We are very blessed to have the sweet Miss Amanda Stephens and Miss Jeni Campbell who welcome our young dancers into the studio with open arms and help them discover their love for dance. Miss Jayme Server is also back teaching at our studio after performing in Disneyland and also brings her lovely musical theater talents from her performances in Legally Blonde and Tarzan. Our Russian ballet teacher Yekaterina Yurteyeva or "Miss Kate" has transformed our Ballet program and brought an incredible knowledge of beauty and grace to the education of this classical art form. Gregory Filler has been our long time Tap and Irish instructor with an extensive resume of performing and choreographing Broadway musicals and touring companies around the country. Our Jazz and Contemporary programs have a diverse group of teachers currently working professionally in the industry. Dare Kujawa, who was a contestant on Season Nine of So You Think You Can Dance is currently contracted in Love at the Mirage in Las Vegas. Amy Thomson works constantly in shows around Las Vegas and has performed in numerous productions such as David Copperfield. Giovanna Andolina can currently be seen dancing in MJ Live at the Stratosphere in Las Vegas. Jake Phillips is currently under contract for Legends on Tour and also heads up our Hip Hop program at the studio. One of the new additions to our program is Dance Acrobatics, which is taught by Christine Hawkins. Christine brings her expertise to our intensive level students as a former acrobat of Siegfried & Roy.

We have multiple programs that can fit your dancers' desire, whether they would choose to take one or more classes a week, or be involved in our intensive program. Our Dance Etc… Intensive Dance Company performs around the community and represents the beautiful leaders within our studio. As a studio, we have performed in multiple years of the Santa's Electric Night Parade, fundraisers for the Community Education Advisory Board, Fine Arts Night and talent shows at our local schools, and Art in the Park. Each year, Dance Etc… helps the Chamber of Commerce host the Little Miss and Mister Boulder City Pageant at Spring Jamboree, and has also had an amazing time instructing and performing with the very brave and talented city council members and business owners at the Dancing with the Stars Chamber of Commerce Annual Installation Dinners. We have absolutely embraced being a part of this amazing community for almost forty years and look forward to many more.

Every day, I am so proud of the dedication and work ethic that our students of dance have in their hearts. Each day, these young members of our community attend a whole day at school. They are loaded up on homework and school projects, then walk through our doors and start their dance day. They push themselves athletically to achieve their goals and harness their talents and skills. These children are truly learning strong disciplines that will build confidence, and carry them through tough obstacles. A child is using their body, heart and soul when they dance, and they discover something new through each class and movement while developing lasting friendships. Dance truly does bring people together.

We perform our annual performances inside the Historic Boulder Theatre to give the children the thrill of stage performance and entertaining our community. These events showcase all of the hard work by our students for a rewarding and memorable experience. This year, we will be performing a Viva Vegas themed showcase in April 2016. Our graduating senior classes of students each year are honored with a special routine and slideshow of memories as they inspire the generations up and coming through the studio.

We have performed Musical Theater dance recital productions of Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Snow White, Aladdin, and we our excited about our up and coming production of Annie, which will be in May of 2016.

This month, on December 14th, our Intensive Dance Company will perform a holiday showcase at the Historic Boulder Theatre. In past years, we have performed Holiday Magic, Spirit of the Season, and A Christmas Wish.

This year, our show is entitled Joy to the World. This performance will have a storyline that will bring the joy of the holidays to an American family struggling with distance, as their loved one is overseas in the military. There will be two performances of this production, 6pm and 7:30pm.

A portion of the ticket sales for these performances will also be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. I hope the community will not only come out and support the children of Boulder City in this performance, but our great Americans as well. Happy Holidays to all!
