Boulder City Fine Arts Festival
The Boulder City Fine Arts Festival has been running every year for twenty-two years. Sometimes called the Spring show or the April show I guess in reference to the October show or Art in the Park.

It all started on May 17, 1986 with the first Clark County Artists’ Show in Bicentennial Park (“near the gazebo”) with somewhat less than 75 artists. The idea of another show was to give local artists a better chance to show their work. The Art in the Park grew so rapidly artists from all over the nation were slowly pushing local artists out of contention. The show struggled for several years with about 50-60% of spaces sold to local Southern Nevada artists. Proceeds had always supported the Guild’s $500 scholarship program.

The name was changed in 1995 to Clark County Art Show and again in 2002 to Boulder City Fine Arts Festival and eligibility was opened to all artists of the seven southwestern states served by Hoover Dam and the Colorado River Region. It was an immediate success with a complete “sell-out” of 100 spaces and a tremendous increase in attendance. Sometimes “It’s all in the name!” Scholarships grew to six $1,000 scholarships each year.

The dates have moved from the third week in May, to Mother’s Day weekend then the last weekend in April. This year the show committee decided on the third weekend in April unless Easter falls on the same date. We will have to make a decision when that happens. Maybe we could still have the show in conjunction with Easter with an Easter Parade on Saturday and an Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday... all in the park. The Boulder City Art Guild produces the show and is always open to suggestions on how to improve the event.

Come to Bicentennial Park (adjacent to City Hall) to enjoy the show, including high school and Art Center students. Great food concessions too, including wine from Milo’s Best Cellars this year.
