Spring Is In The Air
What is that? Is it Spring in the air? Or maybe a spring in your step due to the great weather and the beautifully colored flowers. This has got to be the best time of the year in Boulder City and I’ve got a great way for you to celebrate... Spring Jamboree 2007! I can’t think of a finer time to join your friends and neighbors in the clean, green parks of the Historic District and soak in the warm sun, great entertainment, fun carnival rides, festival food, talented artisans, and stunning hot rods.

There are so many activities that are now associated with Spring Jam, I’m not even sure where to begin. How about May 4th, that seems to be the best place to start. As you drive by the government parks area, you’ll see quite a buzz as we begin the tremendous job of setting up for such a large event. It’s always interesting to watch our beautiful lawns transform into marketplaces, stages, rides and car displays. Friday is usually left to just set up, but this year, the Spring Jam crew wanted to give a little more. We will be working with ALS of Nevada in helping to educate Boulder City about ALS during the special month of May. It is ALS Awareness month and we want to teach our residents about this disease. BC residents are not immune and we currently have several friends that are fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease. As a way to help raise money for this organization, a fundraising event will take place Friday, May 4th from 6 –10 p.m. at Evan’s Old Town Grille. Thanks to Evan’s compassion and generosity, families will gather to celebrate life and raise funds and awareness for ALS of Nevada. Tickets for this event are on sale at the Chamber.

Saturday, you’re going to want to get out of your pjs early and head to the park. Entertainment begins at 9 a.m. and won’t quit ‘till we’re exhausted from kickn’ up our heels that night with Tim Murphy and his Country Western band. There will be many locals performing and of course the traditional Little Miss and Mister Contest and the beloved Bark in the Park, with proceeds going to See Spot Run this year. When you’re not watching the stage you can enjoy the exhilarating carnival rides, strolling through the Arts and Crafts, Antiques in the Park, Pan Draggers Rod Run car show and the amazing Quilt Old Town outdoor quilt show. Every year each of these fun events get bigger and better. And the best part is, it’s all FREE. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy spring in BC than a fun, family, festival in the park.

Sunday will also be an amazingly full day of fun and entertainment. It’s my favorite time to walk around the Old Town area and visit with the merchants and restaurants. You can often see great sidewalk sales and enjoy a few minutes on a shady bench while people watching as our guests enjoy Boulder City.

So this year will be the 30th Annual Spring Jamboree. WOW... that’s old, but not as old as the Chamber is this year. We are celebrating our 75th year in business in Boulder City and how great it is that the Boulder City residents and guests to our town have supported us in so many ways. Not only by shopping local with our members, but also by participating in all the special events in our community. Events bring tourism, tourism brings revenue, and revenue means a healthy economy for BC.

Boulder City is quite lucky to have so many wonderful organizations that provide awesome special events to our residents. Whether this spring you enjoy walking your dog down the red carpet at the Celebrity Dog Walk, strolling through fine art at the Fine Arts Festival, watching the sun rise at the annual Sunrise Service on Easter, scavenging for eggs at the annual Easter Egg hunt, jousting at the Renaissance Faire, relaxing in a comfy dining chair at one of the many sidewalk cafes, or joining us at the 30th Annual Spring Jamboree for tons of fun... Boulder City has something to offer to everyone. Don’t miss a thing!
