The Recreation Department is thrilled to introduce the community to instructor, Krista Wyatt. Krista found her way to the Recreation Department through yoga instructor Amy Dieleman who needed assistance with teaching her class as her schedule was changing. Beginning in September, Amy will teach yoga on Monday and Krista on Wednesday.
When I saw Krista’s background in Expressive Arts (incorporating movement, music, and art to enhance one’s sense of wellbeing), the light bulb went off. I had been looking for someone who could teach toddler classes. When I approached her about this, she was receptive and asked for time to put a curriculum together. Krista is an RYT500, CRYT (children’s), PRYT (prenatal), and laughter yoga teacher. She has a BA in music, MS in curriculum and instruction, and is studying to be a clinical psychologist. She is also trained in classroom management/parenting, a positive discipline program that she incorporates into her teaching.
In developing toddler classes, she is currently training in sign language: signingtime.com and early childhood music and movement: musicrhapsody.com
Starting in September, Krista will be teaching toddler time classes where parents and toddlers spend time together (parents stay for the class) incorporating new skills to support learning and development. These classes are open to children nine months old and up. Two classes will be offered. In Sing and Sign, toddlers and parents learn sign language with fun songs to support language learning, communication, and musical awareness. Dance with Me combines movement and music to increase spatial awareness, physical fitness and listen/following direction skills.
These classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday with Sing and Sign from 9:15 to 9:45am and Dance with Me from 10 to 10:30am. Registration for these classes has been set up in a user-friendly manner that provides flexibility in your toddler’s schedule.
