Devil Dash Race Returns to BC
Fire Leaping, Mud Crawling, 5K Obstacle Race and Beer Festival

By John LaBonney

Devil Dash is the ultimate 5K race for thrill-seeking athletes and party-goers. On Friday and Saturday, March 22nd and 23rd; fearless runners will head to Boulder City to take on over fourteen intense obstacles through Purgatory, running through more than three miles of adventurous terrain, and celebrating with friends and family during an all day festival with live music, food and beer in the Beer Garden of Eden.

Boulder City’s Devil Dash will take place at Bootleg Canyon on Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd. In addition to more mud and more obstacles at this year’s course, Devil Dash will also be hosting several “NIGHT” waves on Friday evening for adventurous runners. The night races are for those of you fearless enough to face the Devil in the dark. Wear your devilish dayglow costumes and streak across the night. This will be the same course as the day race along with beer and bands. A headlamp is required for the night races.

With names like “The Reaper,” “Dominatrax,” and “Armageddon,” Bootleg Canyon’s series of trails will lead racers throughout the 5K adventure. This year’s Devil Dash will have participants jumping through fire, crawling through mud pits, climbing over cargo nets, scaling “Satan’s Tower” and working their way through additional grueling obstacles themed after the seven deadly sins.

The first wave of the race on Friday evening will begin at 7:30pm and on Saturday at 9am, followed by waves of racers taking off to tackle the course every half hour throughout the day.

Race Director, Will Newcomer says, “Devil Dash is an event that runners and spectators will never forget. After conquering an adventurous course with fourteen plus natural and man made obstacles themed after the seven deadly sins, racers will celebrate with live music, beer and food, alongside their fellow devils and angels. And there is no better city in the world to kick of the Devil Dash Race Series than Boulder City.”

Participants are encouraged to suit up in their best Devil and Angel attire and are crowned with shiny Devil wigs prior to racing. Boulder City Resident, Britney Payne, participant of last year’s Devil Dash said, “The Devil Dash was awesome! We had a blast with all of the obstacles and the mud! Not to mention all of the ridiculously funny costumes. I will definitely be doing the Devil Dash again in the future!”

Beer from local breweries and Devil grub from local food trucks will be available for purchase in the Beer Garden of Eden. Spectators are welcome to enjoy the live music playing throughout the day and watch the racers tackle several obstacles near the finish.

First Descents is Devil Dash’s official charity partner in 2013. First Descents helps young adults battling cancer by leading them on week-long outdoor adventures. Additionally, local nonprofit organizations or clubs who provide ten to twenty volunteers for race day can earn up to $1,000 for their organization.
