Nexus 7 - Google Tablet

The new Nexus 7 is a 7” display tablet running the Android (Jelly Bean) operating system. It uses a quad-core Tegra 3 processor and will get up to 8 hours of battery life. The Nexus 7 is a nice size with a 1280 x 899 display and weighs 340 g. It has only 1 camera that is 1.2MP front-facing which is good for Skype video calls. Some other features include wireless Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microphone, accelerometer, GPS, magnetometer and a gyroscope, just to name a few.

Out of the box there are only 2 buttons, power and volume control. The display is clean and sharp looking. After a quick setup and linking to our Google account, we were in business. You should know this new tablet is for my wife, and it’s not my new electronic play toy. Next, we checked out what we can do with it. Using Chrome, we were able to surf the internet nice and easy and we saved bookmarks to our favorites right on the custom home page. One of the neat things that worked great was the voice active search feature. You just talk to the Nexus 7 and it will find the website or search the web for you.

It was easy to set the tablet up so we could download free eBooks from the public library. This way, we will not have to buy an eBook, just check it out from our own Boulder City Library at www.bclibrary.org.  Now with just a few clicks you can read these free books. The Nexus 7 uses free cloud storage to save all of your eBooks, music and more online. So far we are happy with the Nexus 7 and it comes with a USB charging plug. You can plug this into your computer and copy over music or files easily. You won’t be able to do this on an Apple device.

Nexus 7 is now for sale at www.google.com/nexus. The Nexus 7 comes in two options: the 8GB for $199 and the 16GB version for $249. Both versions will ship in 3-5 business days. For a limited time you will get a Transformer movie and a $25 credit to spend at the Google Play store. This is where you can download and buy apps, music, movies, eBooks and more. You can check the store out at www.play.google.com without owning the Nexus 7.
