Powerful Exercise

What exercise can you think of that makes your body sweat, your focus become strong and intense, yet relaxes your mind as you become one with your surroundings? For me, that is running.

Running is a powerful art form, which I have come to learn, and has incredible benefits. Up until about 2 months ago, I never realized the true beauty of this exercise. Now I have unlocked a treasure that I have access to as long as I am physically able.

I had always known that walking, running, and jogging was healthy for the body. But, discovering the depth of the benefits was really interesting.

A morning run helps set the metabolism in motion and circulate blood. Not only that, but it also helps lower blood sugar. I like to refer to it as a “jump start” for the body. But there are much greater advantages to a morning run besides just the physical aspects.

The mind of a runner is allowed to roam freely, like a bird taking flight in the sky. Early in the morning, our mind has little stress upon it. Creative thoughts and motivational ideas pop into play.

My grandfather used to be a marathon runner, and he shared with me that one of the greatest aspects of running is you begin to notice so many details around you. After some routine, I began to notice the same effects. The purple flowers on the bush seem to be more brilliant in color, the depth of the bush greater. Sounds begin to pop out at you as you begin to listen for them. It may sound sort of odd, but that is the best way I can describe the feeling.

As you can see, I find it to be extremely beneficial to run. In the evening, a nice walk helps clear my mind before bed. In the early morning, it helps set my mind for the day, and sometimes helps my energy and focus. My goal is to be able to run 5 miles in under 45 minutes by Christmas. In the meantime, I will just keep “on the run!”
