Boulder City Libraries

In 1932 several libraries were formed. In January, the American Legion opened a library in the Six Companies Hospital. In April, Virginia McCormick opened a circulating library in the Nava-Hopi Trading Post.

In July, the American Legion Auxiliary established a public library housed in the American Legion building at the corner of Wyoming and Nevada Way; however, that building was removed to make way for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Headquarters.

In January of 1933, the Bureau of Reclamation established the first public library in the basement of the Municipal Building. Then in 1958 the Boulder City Public Library moved upstairs in the Municipal Building. (Now the Police Station)

Pictured below are Boulder City children in front of the Public Library in 1949.

In 1982 Boulder City residents marveled at the new library building. It was built on Coronado Plaza and is currently the Boulder City Senior Center.

Then on March 18, 2002 the latest library opened. It is on part of the site that was the Southern Nevada Children’s Home. Thousands of books, hundreds of magazines and DVDs to check out aren’t the only value. There are dozens of computers for citizens to use, along with wireless internet. The addition of an outdoor amphitheater makes the community proud of this facility and supports its many events.

From a few dozen volumes in the Six Companies Hospital to the current library, the citizens of Boulder City still value its library.
