PC Reservation

This month I’m excited to be able to tell you about a new product we are using at the Library. PC Reservation is a program that allows our regular patrons to walk right up to an available computer, log-in and GO! Gone

are the days of having to stop at the Reference Desk to log-in to a computer. We are getting rid of that middle step to save time for both patrons and the staff. You will no longer have to wait for us to finish helping someone on the phone or helping someone with another question before we can log you in to use a computer.

Possibly the best thing about the new software for our patrons is that those patrons no longer are tied to the clock and have to start their computer sessions at the top of the hour. Now, a patron can have a full hour of computer time even if that patron logs-in at 10 minutes before the top of the hour.

For those of you who like to reserve a computer ahead of time, we can still accommodate you. The only difference is that now if you are phoning in a reservation, you need to have your library card handy so we can enter that number into the reservation system.

The system still gives each patron 1-hour of computer time per day. If, at the end of that hour you are not done with your business AND that computer is not reserved for someone else AND we have plenty of computers available, you will be given the opportunity to extend your computer time. However, if we have a “Full House,” you will not be able to extend your time.

This does not mean you can’t stop at the Reference Desk to talk with the Librarian on duty. It just means that now we will have more time to help you with finding books and answering your other questions. People who have not signed our Computer Responsibility Statement still need to stop at the Reference Desk so we can get you added to the system.

Our next upgrade to the Computer Lab will be the addition of an “Express Station” for those who need only a few minutes to print out a boarding pass or to check email.

The library is open 9-8:30 Monday to Thursday,  9-5 on Fridays, 11-4 Saturdays and closed Sundays.
