Antiquities, Etc.
Last month I mentioned the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, but cannot resist another mention after my most recent visit there. Wow!! The Treasures of Egypt will amaze and delight young and old! Awesome is an enormous understatement. You’ll save a pricey trip to Egypt and receive a world class experience with a short drive. Marilyn Gillespie, the Museum’s Director, spearheaded the project.

Replica artifacts, certified by the Egyptian Antiquities Bureau, were made from the same materials and hand crafted using the same techniques employed by original artisans. Estimated at $3 million, these artifacts were donated by the Luxor. From the impressive entrance of the $1 million museum addition to the scanner allowing you to see through a replica mummy looking at medical imaging from a real mummy, to me this experience equaled the traveling Tut Exhibit with actual artifacts. Marilyn’s Museum is the only one in the US with the medical imaging of a mummy display! 900 Las Vegas Blvd. North, (702) 384-3466 or www.lvnhm.org. Open daily 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Christmas Day and Thanksgiving. Adults $10, kids $5, and there’s a great coupon on the website!

Did you know The District at Green Valley Ranch offers FREE family movies on Friday and Saturday at dusk, spring through fall on The Green near that great Carousel? Visitors are invited to bring blankets to sit on and snacks to keep the munchies away, although they also provide FREE popcorn! What a deal!! Along with the family, Rover and soft drinks are also welcome, no smoking or adult beverages please! Movies in June start at 8 p.m., it’s suggested you arrive up to one hour ahead. More details at www.shop-the-district.com, or (702) 564-8595.

NEAT NEVADA NOTES: One of only 25, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is 420 acres nestled near the Wilson Range at about 3800’, making it 10 to 15 wonderful degrees cooler than the Las Vegas Valley in summer! The picnic area is home to 400 year old trees. Check out Super Summer Theatre by calling (702) 895-2727 or visiting www.supersummer theatre.com for June, July, and August plays.
