Library Corner by S. Lynn Schofield-Dahl, Director Boulder City Library February Special Events February is our shortest month of the year. It is also a month that hosts a number of special events.

National Black History Month falls in February in honor of the birthdates of Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln. The observance of this special period to recognize achievements and contributions by African Americans dates from February 1926. For more information, www.asalh.org. February has been recognized by Presidential Proclamation as, “American Heart Month” every year since 1964. Help increase your knowledge about heart-health by visiting: www.americanheart.org. American Heart Month has also sparked an educational movement “Go Red For Women” to help share information about women and cardiovascular disease. The Home Baking Association has declared February, “Bake For Family Fun Month”, dedicated to the great taste, good nutrition, economy and family fun of traditional home baking. Web site: www.homebaking.org. February is also “International Expect Success Month”. Make good things happen this month. If you want good things to happen to you in the new year, you must “Expect Success and act as though there is no other option”. www.iexpectsuccess.com. Two of my favorite events fall in February. The first is Children’s Authors & Illustrators Week, February 1-6. This week celebrates the authors and illustrators who create books for our young people and promote literacy and inspire a joy of reading. The second is Library Lovers Month, a month long celebration of libraries of all kinds.
