The Arts by Judy Barton Boulder City Art Guild Artist Profile - Vince Zocco An educator turned artist, Vince Zocco is the “Featured Artist” for the Boulder City Art Gallery during January and February. Vince, a Doctor of Education, has led an interesting life. He started his working career as a plumber in New Jersey. Later he moved his family to Wyoming where he went back to the classroom to get his teaching credentials. He taught high school English, Business and Vocational Education.

He continued with his own education and received both a masters and doctorate degrees. His next step was to teach college classes and he eventually became an administrator. Vince and his wife retired in Henderson, Nevada, but he remains active in the educational field by teaching graduate education courses to teachers in the classroom and also on-line. While Vince was young he had a strong interest in drawing and received encouragement through gifts of art supplies for holidays and birthdays. Upon retirement, he felt he needed to learn more about his avocation. He attended many classes and workshops on painting that were presented by some of the Las Vegas area’s outstanding artists.

Vince uses photography as a basic ingredient for his artwork. Taking pictures of places he visits, finding interesting people to capture in snapshots, and composing floral subjects all become references for his watercolor renderings. He finds color and the linear elements the most interesting to emphasize in his work. A sample of his soft colors and delicate touch is evident in the picture “Izzy”. A reception was held for Vince on January 16, 2010 and he will be available to talk about his work on February 8, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Art Guild Gallery located in the Boulder Dam Hotel.
