We Locals Are Valuable!
To make proverbial lemonade from the current crop of enormous economy lemons, let’s look on the bright side! Las Vegas has discovered the value of courting local residents’ business. There are websites for free stuff, coupons and discounts.

For example, check out www.mgmmirage.com/locals for discounted rooms and show tickets – some tickets as much as 40% off. No computer? Visit the Boulder City Library on Adams; call 293-1281 for more information, or just walk in. They have several computers you are welcome to use with a time limit so everyone gets a turn on-line. Tix4tonight.com is primarily show and dinner tickets; you do need to pick up the tickets in person at one of six locations. Las Vegas Leisure Guide founded in 1995 at lasvegas-nv.com is one of the oldest sites with coupons for things to do in Las Vegas. Vegas4locals.com is another website with great deals. Other sites with coupons for everything from clothing to food: coupons.com, couponcabin.com, and retailmenot.com.

Our Boulder City Library is one of the best uses of tax dollars out there! With a Library card there is FREE use of DVDs, audio books, and well, yes, old fashioned printed books.

NEAT NEVADA NOTES: At the tippy top of Nevada, rooted in Nevada and Oregon on US 95, is the tiny community of Denio. At 4200’ elevation, less than 100 miles north of Winnemucca and close to the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Denio was established in 1885, and is unincorporated with roughly 50 residents. Excellent fishing abounds for trout, catfish, bass and crappie - there is even a website for the latter at www.crappie.com with everything from recipes to t-shirts! Also visit www.ndow.org for additional fishing information. Besides fishing, there is opal mining where you can do it yourself from May through September; visit www.bonanzaopals.com or call 775-941-0111. This rural Nevada phone isn’t answered October 1 through May 19! There is lodging at Denio Junction or camping at Royal Peacock RV Park and Bonanza Opal Mines. Denio is lastly famous as a drop point for unsuspecting UNR freshman during pledge week in the long ago 1960s!
