Artist Profile -
Jane Marquez
Jane was born in Paola, Kansas and spent the first few years in the Midwest before moving to the East Coast of Florida. It was in the Kennedy Space Center that she had her first work experience working in the visitor center there.

After soaking up all that sunshine she decided to move West, to San Diego in 1970. It was there that she met and married her soul mate, Ruben. They raised two children and traded Southern California sunshine for the deserts of Southern Nevada. Through all of this she always maintained her love of drawing and art.

She attended Palomar College in San Marcos, California and earned an Associates degree in Fine Arts in 1990. She developed her style in various workshops with Sally Strand, Sean Dye, Urania Christy-Tarbet, Joe Garcia, Harry Bliss and William Scott Jennings. She experienced working in Acrylic, Oil, Mixed Media and Pastels, but Pastels are her favorite medium. She loves landscapes, animals and people portraits, especially Native American portraits which reflect her own Native American heritage. Recently, her interest has turned to railroads and the Southern Nevada Railway has appeared in many of her pastel paintings.

Jane’s list of accomplishments and awards is extensive. Most prominent is her selection for the KNPR Purchase Award, which became KNPR’s 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Poster. Also, thirteen flag pole banners along Las Vegas Boulevard depict her work. The same art was published in the City of Las Vegas’ pamphlet, “Explore the Cultural Corridor,” which included the stretch by Lied Discovery Children’s Museum, Las Vegas Natural History Museum, The Neon Museum, Las Vegas Library, Cashman Center, Reed Whipple Center and the Old Mormon Fort State Park. She has plenty of ribbons and awards on her walls from a tremendous number of exhibitions and shows.

Her work can be seen in the Boulder City Art Guild Gallery in the Boulder Dam Hotel seven days a week and in most festivals during the year in Southern Nevada. She has a web site at www.janemarquezart.com.
