Grab Your Dancin' Shoes and Fishing Poles
With the 2009 Parks and Recreation Department March – August 2009 Brochure being sent to homes in the next couple of weeks, I couldn’t help but share some of our new upcoming activities with you.

Let’s start with dancing. A new dance class for youths ages 3 – 12 will take place on Tuesdays. This class promotes healthy lifestyles by encouraging creativeness and coordination and enhances social skills, poise and manners. Then for the adults, Friday nights will offer Dance Club from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at the ABC Park Gymnasium. Dance Club is a workshop format of instruction where you can learn the ins and outs of ballroom and night club dancing. Special requests for specific dances can be made such as “Dirty Dancing” style, “Hip Hop” and more. During the time of Dance Club, there will be a Dance Club Kids Camp offered in the adjacent room. Here, kids will have fun with a variety of teachings that may include dance, arts & crafts, drama, etc. With dance, you gain a wealth of benefits such as cardiovascular improvement, balance, poise, etc. and the social benefits are enticing too! If you have a partner, great – if not, you can join another single dancer or take a twirl with the instructor. We do ask that drop in participants arrive no later than 8 p.m. Next, we have a modeling class for children 3 – 14 years of age. In this class, students work on self-esteem, poise, leadership, public speaking skills and confidence. Class includes dress up, microphone and runway tips and techniques.

Last spring, we offered a special Mother’s Day fly fishing class. This year, we’ve opened up the July 11 & 12 fly fishing class to everyone 12 years of age and up. Pre-registration is required. Plus, the Nevada Department of Wildlife will offer a beginner fishing clinic on July 25 with registration beginning July 13. This event is open to all ages and covers basic casting skills, identifying fish, choosing baits and lures, basic knots and much more, and concludes with putting those new fishing skills to the test. Participants 12 years old and over will be required to have a Nevada fishing license. Space is limited for both of these activities and pre-registration is required.
