Just got my hands on the Sony Reader Digital Book from the Boulder City Library. Electronic books can be read on a computer, but a digital book is much smaller and lighter to carry. To use the Sony Reader, download e-books that are now available online at the Boulder City Library, to your device. Then start reading your e-book on the Sony Reader using the page forward and page back buttons. The Sony Reader holds about 160 e-books, or hundreds more with optional removable memory cards. And you can access over 500,000 free public domain books from Google.com.

You can download new releases, classics and popular book titles, as well as viewing other document formats such as Adobe PDF10, RTF, TXT, BBeB and Microsoft Word.

The Sony Reader’s battery life is up to 7,500 continuous page turns, and the paper-like screen is easy on the eyes. It weighs about 9 ounces and is 1/3" thin. You can adjust font size at the touch of a button to make viewing easier.

You can start reading one e-book and the Sony Reader will bookmark your location for that book. Start another book and it will remember where you left off. The one thing that you have to get used to is the way the screen changes between pages with a short flash of black.

The Sony Reader is about $250 - $300 and comes in silver, dark blue and red. You charge the Sony Reader by plugging it into the USB port on your computer, or you can buy an external power supply. You can pick up a small USB power adapter for under $20 at most electronics stores.

You can have a look at the Sony Reader at the Boulder City Library for about 60 days. It is on loan there courtesy of sb-tb.com Sony & Harlequin.
