Many of you already understand the pleasure of listening to an audio book or music while you are in the car, walking, gardening, or whatever. The Boulder City Library now offers our patrons a different format to enjoy audio books and music: Downloadable Audio Books and Music. These are audio files that you can download to your PC and then listen to them from your PC, MP3 player, or other electronic devices.
By joining with the Las VegasClark County Library District, we can now offer access to the Overdrive Downloadable Audio Book and Music collection to Boulder City patrons. The LV-CCLD Overdrive collection includes over 6,000 books and music titles that you can download and listen to. Like books, most of these titles can be used by only 1 person at a time, but also like book titles, you can reserve titles that are of interest to you.
The “check-out” period for downloadable audio books is 21 days or less. Music downloads are set to a 7-day check-out period. You won’t have to worry about overdue fines with downloadable audio books. When you have reached your due date, the item is automatically disabled.
To use these items, you will need access to a few things to start with:
1. A valid, active library card from BCLD or LVCCLD.
2. A PC with the Overdrive Media Console and Windows Media Player 9 or newer. Both pieces of software are free to download at the site listed below.
3. If you want to be mobile with your downloaded media you will need a MP3 player or other electronic device.
NOTE: Overdrive Audio Books can be played on an iPod, but must be first downloaded to a PC, then transferred to your iPod.
