It's Time To Rise To The Occasion
My entire life, I have had the privilege of hearing stories of the early days of Boulder City. The stories actually started before Boulder City was built as my grandparents came to this area in 1931.

It has long been recognized that Boulder City’s history, with the building of Hoover Dam and unique development of our town during The Great Depression, is a story that should not be lost with the passing generations.

To understand my article this month, please read the cover story first. Preliminary processes are being taken to move forward with the concept to expand the 31ers Reunion luncheon to educational outreach. This will include living history presentations which will be developed via Recreation Department Theater Classes. Please note that although the years of the building of the Dam will no doubt be the highlight of our efforts, there are plenty of stories to be developed about Boulder City’s small town charm through the decades.

This concept supports the City’s Strategic Plan Goals Numbers 5 and 7. Goal No. 5: Small Town Character and History. As the City grows and experiences stimuli for change, its small town character and historical ties to the construction of Hoover Dam should be maintained. Goal No. 7: Recreation and Leisure. The City should continue its current level of recreational and leisure time services for participants of all ages while investigating either new or enhanced services in keeping with the available resources.

Now is the time for our community to fully embrace honoring the 31ers at the annual reunion luncheon and expanding Boulder City’s history through educational outreach. Anyone and everyone who has time, talents and/or funds to support these efforts should contact Patty Sullivan at 294-0335 or e-mail psullivan@bcnv.org. I would be happy to share with you details of the plan to date. Please note that there is plenty of room for more creativity in accomplishing this goal. I look forward to hearing from you.

The annual Halloween Carnival 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and the Haunted House 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. will be held October 30th at the Recreation Center Gymnasium. Enjoy a host of carnival games that bring you tricks and treats. Admission is free and game tickets are $.75. Remember, it’s more fun to come in costume.
