For the past few years Boulder City residents have been enjoying free concerts at the Boulder City Library amphitheater. These concerts are made possible through a donation from El Dorado Energy, and the efforts of volunteers from the Friends of the Arts, and the City of Boulder City. The schedule has included two Spring concerts and two Fall concerts.
The next concert will be the Marty Warburton Bluegrass Band. They will perform on Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m. This bluegrass band has been performing throughout the United States since 1975. The band consists of four members: Marty Warburton on the banjo, Kelly Warburton on the guitar, April Pisciotla on standup bass and J.Buckey on mandolin and fiddle. They specialize in traditional and contemporary bluegrass, along with extensive original material. They have received the Nevada Governor’s Folk Art Award and won the International Bluegrass Showdown in Owensboro, Kentucky. Boulder City resident George Rhee will open the concert with a guitar performance. George is an accomplished musician, recording artist and world renowned astronomer.
This year’s concerts have included the Las Vegas Brass Band, the College of Southern Nevada’s Concert Band, and the Gamble-Aires Barbershop Chorus. Concert goers are encouraged to bring a picnic and blanket or folding chairs. Thanks to the Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department and Friends of the Arts, free popcorn will be available. Soft drinks, water will be available for purchase.
