Boulder City Damboree Committee
by Patty Sullivan

IT TAKES A LOT OF PLANNING AND A LOT OF SUPPORT TO MAKE THE DAMBOREE 4TH OF JULY A SUCCESS!

Tradition. It’s what binds our community and strengthens our roots. The Boulder City Damboree Committee is now working on putting together the 60th Annual 4th of July Celebration. This event has a long history of bringing people together and creating community and family traditions. The 2008 Damboree theme is “Proud To Be An American”.

Everyone knows that the 4th of July is the time of year when Boulder City High School class reunions appear in the parks in abundance. This year, the Class of 1978 will hold its 30 Year Class Reunion over the 4th of July weekend and we expect more to follow.

Did you know that the Damboree Celebration is operated solely on donations?

Many years ago, the funds raised for the Damboree went to pay for fireworks. That’s why the donation jugs were put in the local stores. This tradition will continue. However, the donations received in the jugs are not the primary source of funding that they once were. Believe me when I say we appreciate every penny we get in the jugs and those funds are dedicated solely to the fireworks.

In the early days, the Lake Mead National Park Service was able to share its portable restrooms, the stages were donated, and the sound systems were provided by Boulder City residents providing their own equipment and time. Times have changed. None of these things are available to us on a donation basis anymore.

Over the many years of the Damboree, the celebration has improved in its presentation of event components. We now have six announcer stations along the parade route, park entertainment, music at the fireworks, and more.

To help with expenses, the Damboree Committee is asking for your help with a contribution to the overall success of the Boulder City Damboree Celebration. Contributor categories have been set up for your convenience:

General Contributor – no amount specified
$100-$249 Bronze Contributor
$250-$499 Silver Contributor
$500-$999 Gold Contributor
$1,000+ Platinum Contributor
(Contributions should be mailed to P.O. Box 60114, Boulder City, NV 89005.)

The Committee is implementing some new procedures for 2008. This year, parade applications will be handled:

Non-profit organizations are exempt from fees with proof of their non-profit status.
NO FEE - Entries received or postmarked by 5/1
$20 fee - Entries received or postmarked 5/2-6/1

The parade application, event schedule and parade and festivity map can be found on the City of Boulder City web site at www.bcnv.org.

The community at large and our friends from afar look forward to the magic of this cherished event.
