Fine Arts Festival

It’s time for the Boulder City Fine Arts Festival again… be sure to come out to the park and enjoy the artwork, fine crafts, entertainment, demonstrations, and great food concessions.

The show is produced by the Boulder City Art Guild, an IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our poster, T-shirt and program art this year is by Featured Artist Georgine Morelli. It is one of her “Spectators” series of paintings sent into a whirl by computer. She calls it “Blanket Explosion.” Look closely and you can make out the backs of fifteen Native Americans in brightly colored blankets with black feathers on their heads.

The first “Spring Show” was on May 17, 1986, known then as the Clark County Artists’ Show. The place is the same (Bicentennial Park) but time has changed much of the purpose and atmosphere of the show. Proceeds from artist fees has always supported the Guild’s scholarship program which started at $300 for one student. It has grown substantially along with the show. Currently the Guild gives six $1,000 scholarships every year to new or continuing college students. A student entering his/her freshman year on a Guild scholarship may continue to collect $1,000 each year for four years without further competition. Another $1,000 is earmarked for the Boulder City Art Center students. Those students that cannot afford the fees are awarded “mini grants”. Over $75,000 has been awarded through the years.

In 1995 the name was changed to Clark County Art Show and again in 2002 to Boulder City Fine Arts Festival. At the same time eligibility was opened to all artists of the seven southwestern states served by Hoover Dam and the Colorado River Region. It was an immediate success with a complete “sell-out” of 100 spaces and a tremendous increase in attendance. Sometimes “It’s all in the name!”

Come to Bicentennial Park (adjacent to City Hall) to enjoy the show, including High School and Art Center students. Great food concessions too, featuring wines from Milo’s Best Cellars again this year.
