Ah, October - Fall Is In The Air
Fall has to be one of my favorite times of the year here in Boulder City. It’s not just our fantastic weather; it happens to be a time of year that the Recreation Department offers some great programs.

Each year, the Boulder City Henderson Heatwave Swim Team and the Recreation Department host a fun filled Halloween Carnival. Over the years, the carnival has been visited by goblins, pumpkins, vampires, princesses and more, who have enjoyed a wide variety of carnival games with the thrill of winning a theme-oriented prize. Admission is free and game tickets are $.75 each. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, October 25 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Recreation Department located at 900 Arizona Street. Costumes are encouraged!

Friday, November 2 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. is the annual Teeny Bopper Dance at the Recreation Department. This event has been offered for seventeen years with at least 100 people participating at each dance. Why is this event so successful? It’s simple: It’s affordable at $3 per person and it’s down right fun for kids and parents. Mayor pro tem Mike Pacini is the DJ and parents, recreation staff and volunteers interact with the kids.

For those with a creative spark, the Art Center offers a variety of glass classes. Beginning Glass classes take place Friday evenings October 12, 19 and 26 from 6 – 8 p.m. You will create five cabochon pins, one cracked glass bowl, one wall hanging and one slumped dish. Class is open to ages 16 and up for a $35 class fee and a $10 materials fee.

Ceramic Mosaic Platter Class takes place Monday evenings from 6 – 8 p.m. for ages 13 and up on November 12, 19 and 26. You will create a mosaic platter to take home with you using a variety of pottery pieces. Class fee is $30 with a $5 materials fee.

With Christmas just around the corner, sign up for the Glass Ornament Class taking place on December 8 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. for ages 10 and up. You will create four glass ornaments for a fee of $10 plus a $2 fee for each ornament. Now that’s bargain shopping.
