The Arts by Darrell McGarvey Boulder City Art Guild Artist Profile - Patricia Amon Known to everyone in Boulder City and many other places as “Pat” and also known as “the big bucks person” of the Bureau of Reclamation because she was the accountant for many years until her retirement. Pat is also known for her pleasing pastel paintings beautifully rendered in minute true to life detail.

Pat says she doesn’t really have a favorite, or a masterpiece, so I have chosen my favorite to include here. A painting of wild ducks would be categorized as just another duck painting no matter how beautiful. This duck painting, “bottoms up” is in a class of its own and has proven to be quite popular. Pat was born and raised in Livingston, Montana, a scenic area full of rugged mountains, clear streams and wildlife. It was here she developed her love and appreciation for nature. She enjoyed drawing from an early age and received her first art awards in high school.

Changes in her life began when she married Bob Amon. They alternated between attending college in Missoula, Montana and working in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Their daughter Valerie was born while they were living in the Park. Pat sold pen and ink sketches of wildlife at a local gift shop which catered to tourists. In 1972, the family moved to Washington, D.C. where they began careers with the Federal Government. Two years later they were transferred together to San Francisco, California. Pat put her art on hold while working and raising her little girl. Only when they were transferred to Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Boulder City in 1976 was she to return to painting again. She joined the Boulder City Art Guild and has been active ever since. She currently serves as the Guild’s Membership and Hospitality Director. Pat is showing in “Cubicle One” as the Featured Artist now through January 12, 2008. Be sure to drop by Suite 104 in the Boulder Dam Hotel to see her work.
