Porter Update by Jon C. Porter, Third District Congressman The Largest Tax Increase In American History Congressman Porter recently voted against the largest tax increase in American history. The Democrat’s Fiscal Year 2008 budget calls for a $400 billion tax increase.

“I cannot support a budget that raises taxes for nearly 1 million Nevadans,” Porter said. “The Democrat’s budget irresponsibly burdens families and our economy. If we want to maintain our prosperity we cannot penalize those who are fueling our growth.” According to the U.S. Department of Treasury, over 975,000 Nevadans will see an average tax hike of $2,924. Porter introduced two amendments that would have preserved current tax breaks. The Democrats unanimously voted against extending the child tax credit at its current level and making the state sales tax exemption permanent.  “The federal budget should not be balanced on the backs of low and middle income residents, seniors and families,” Porter said. “If we want to seriously put our fiscal house in order we must cut spending and wasteful government programs like Yucca Mountain.”  Contact U.S. Congressman Jon Porter at www.house.gov/porter.
