With friends, I trekked to a Las Vegas Strip Hotel for a weekend in the big city to play “tourist”. Although our adventure included an overnight stay, everything we experienced could be done during a day trip. Once we settled into the hotel, it was time to venture out on the notorious Las Vegas Strip! We hitched a ride on the almost equally notorious Monorail. It was a real hoot, and WOW there was a local’s discount. The ride was smooth, and it was fascinating to check out the other tourists. Wandering through the hotels gave a good sense of everyone having fun. Lunch at Nine Fine Irishmen in New York New York was excellent, topped off with their house specialty, Irish Coffee. Then we were off to commune with the creatures in Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef. How about that, another local’s discount! The exhibits are beautifully done, an educational treat for kids, big and little, and a great day outing for visiting family and friends.
Dinner time found us at the Venetian strolling along the Grand Canal. Although we didn’t choose to wait for a table overlooking the Canal, we were seated inside to yet another scrumptious meal! Walking along the Strip after dinner, our adventure continued. The sidewalk atmosphere was festive and even a bit crazy - people were giggling and obviously enjoying themselves. No wonder folks flock here to play, dine, shop and experience Las Vegas. I finally got it!
NEAT NEVADA NOTES: Did you realize the Las Vegas Strip is not within Las Vegas City limits? The Strip, however, is federally designated as an All-American Road, the lone scenic byway more exciting at night than during the day.
