School Is Out For Summer!
June 7th is officially the last day of the 2006-2007 school year. When you have a house full of kids this time of year gets a little bit stressful for parents and kids.

There are so many year-end school activities and tests to take. With the fabulous weather, all the kids want to do is be outside playing, swimming or involved in some kind of recreational activity. Focus, what’s focus? Then in a blink of an eye, the summer months are upon us and it’s time to enjoy the change of pace.

The Parks and Recreation Department staff looks forward to this time of year and are eager to service our Boulder City kids with a variety of recreational programs.

This year’s Summer Parks program runs Monday - Friday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. June 11 – August 10. Summer Parks is an exciting program offering outdoor organized play and free time, arts and crafts, daily trips to the City Pool and so much more. Field trips are offered and this year, Mad Science workshops will be held weekly.

Special Interest Classes span a wide variety of interests with Bellydancing, Cheerleading, Tennis, Gymnastics, Babysitting, CPR & First Aid, Dog Obedience, Yoga, Aikido, Karate & Jujitsu. This summer’s specialty camps include Horseback Riding, Jr. Golf and Waterskiing.
Preschool aged kids ages 3 - 5 years old can enjoy two sessions of Summer Tiny Tots that run three days per week. Each session is two weeks long. Be sure to sign up early.

Music fills our hearts and feeds our souls. Through the Art Center, we are fortunate to have music specialist Francyl Gawryn offering a variety of music classes this summer. Infants and preschoolers up to age five can enjoy Music Fandango, a live concert-style interactive learning environment. For our 1st – 5th grader’s Francyl offers a percussion class where kids will get introduced to hand drums, chimes, bells, cymbals and more. Francyl also teaches private music lessons for voice, guitar, dulcimer, recorder and beginning piano. The Art Center also offers Fine Art Prep for ages 7 – 16, Needle Bee needle working class for ages 10+, Pottery for ages 13+ and Tile Art for ages 4+. The Art Center is a great place to expand a child’s creativity.

The Boulder City Pool offers a variety of swimming lessons, daily open swim, family hour and special events and if you’re looking for a great place to hold a party this summer, the City Pool is a great place for all your celebrations. Also available are racquetball/wallyball courts.
