Boulder City Artist Profile - Etel Surany
Etel, also known as Esther, was born in Argentina, South America. The only facts I could glean from her stories of her life there were that she worked a number of years and was a housewife. All she wants to talk about is her artistic career so we will leave her early years for her to hold in her memories.

She was so happy to learn of her artistic talents in 1996 and she is still excited about it. When Etel gets excited her “Spanglish” gets revved up to high speed and becomes very difficult to understand. When she slows up it almost turns into English. I am always asking her to slow down and she will speak each word perfectly... well almost anyway.

Etel’s first art class in 1996 was in San Fernando, California. Ed Crimson was her watercolor teacher. Later that year she continued her studies of various media with Marilyn Lazarus. She was enjoying working in various art forms so much she enrolled at Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California for four years. She also studied under Rosa Odow for 2 years and continued to do so until moving here.

She is a past board member of the San Fernando Valley Art Club, a member of the San Fernando Valley Watercolor Society and the Pacific Art Guild. She is a member of the Nevada Watercolor Society, the Boulder City Art Guild and City Lights Artist’s Gallery in Henderson.

She holds teaching certificates in Multi-dimensional Paper Art with Miju Lee and “Simple Painting” with Frank Clark. She teaches Watercolor, Acrylic, Collage and Cloisonne techniques at Sun City Anthem and JoAnn’s.

Her art was juried in at the Las Vegas Derfelt Center exhibition and at the Las Vegas Fine Arts Museum. Closer to home her work is on display at the Boulder City Art Guild Gallery in the Boulder Dam Hotel. She is the Gallery’s current Featured Artist with her work on display during January and February. Her first love, abstract art, is prominently displayed.
