Reid Report
by Senator Harry Reid
Senate Majority Leader

Your Participation In Winning The West
As the legislative session in Washington draws to a close, it is important that we all look back at some of the great things that have been accomplished for Nevada and the nation. While I serve as the Senate Majority Leader, my first responsibility lies with the people of Nevada.

Our state has the third largest veterans’ population in the country, which is why I helped pass legislation to increase veterans’ funding and ensure our nation’s heroes have access to the healthcare and benefits they have earned. In fact, I personally led the passage of measures giving disabled Nevada veterans access to their disability and retirement benefits, and providing funding for new Veteran’s Affairs medical facilities, including a new Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Clark County.

To tackle energy costs and reduce our reliance on oil, especially foreign oil, I led the Senate in passing energy legislation that will make cars and trucks more fuel efficient and create brand new markets for American-made, clean renewable fuels. It will also make consumer products, lightbulbs and many appliances far more energy efficient.

We also passed a landmark ethics reform bill to clean up Washington, increased access to Nevada Check-Up by stepping up funding for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, and passed legislation to make college more affordable. And we continue our work to focus on American security and priorities by bringing a responsible end to the war in Iraq.

I believe it is important for Nevadans to be heard, which is why I worked so hard to make Nevada an early caucus state. The Nevada caucus on January 19th provides Nevadans with a tremendous opportunity to select a Democratic nominee who understands our issues, like Yucca Mountain, veterans, public lands, and water, just to name a few.

Nevada has more influence than ever, but only if we all participate. Caucusing is fun, easy and exciting. For information on how to participate or if you have any questions about the Nevada Democratic Caucus, please visit www.nvdems.com or call (702) 737-VOTE (8683).
