Reid Report by Senator Harry Reid Democratic Leader Real Security For Boulder City This September marked the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that killed 3,000 Americans.  Among them was Barbara Edwards, a Palo Verde High School teacher, who lost her life when American flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon.

As Boulder City turns from solemn remembrance of 9/11, to a renewed resolve to defend America, I am calling for a new direction to give Nevada the Real Security it deserves. Five years after the terrorist attacks, we are not as safe as we should be.  Security at America’s ports and transit systems is still in need of improvement.  Our country is bogged down in a war in Iraq for which the administration has yet to develop a strategy for finishing the job and bringing our troops home.  And Osama Bin Laden is still on the loose. I’m fighting for a change in Washington that will make Nevada and the country safer. I recently introduced the Real Security Act of 2006.  This new plan would  implement the 9/11 Commission recommendations to secure our homeland; refocus on the war on terror; protect our transportation systems; equip our intelligence community to fight against terrorists; change the course in Iraq; and provide better tools to bring terrorists to justice. Specifically, the plan will increase rail security by providing new technology upgrades, create new grant programs and improve the tracking of hazardous materials.  As the home of the Hoover Dam, these are crucial security steps that will directly impact Boulder City.  We need to improve our transportation security including our rails, ports, mass transit and aviation systems. Homeland security starts with hometown security, in places like Boulder City.  I’m determined to provide the tools we need to develop the tough and smart policies that provide the Real Security that the people of Boulder City deserve.
