What To Do This Summer
Thinking back to my childhood, having been born and raised in Boulder City, the things that stand out the most are cherished summer memories. When I was a little bitty thing, I remember looking forward to family hour at the City Pool. I loved that one-on-one attention from my parents. My mother ran the swim program for many years and I grew up on the pool deck. I remember one summer being enrolled in the competitive swim team, dive team and participating in water ballet all at the same time. My eyes and hair looked like something out of a sci-fi movie and I constantly smelled of chlorine.

As I became a teenager, I would get up early and play tennis with my mother until it got too hot, you know around 8 a.m. Then I’d go home and prepare an ice chest and several friends and I would head to the lake for the day, returning in time for dinner. After dinner, I’d grab my softball and tennis equipment. I’d head first to the softball field for a game and when I was done there, I’d go back to the tennis courts to play more tennis. I ate like a horse, was skinny as a rail and felt great, tired and sore some days, but I didn’t want to miss a thing.

When you think that there are even more opportunities today than there were in the 60’s and 70’s, it’s mind boggling what people can do to entertain themselves in Boulder City. I can only imagine how our children are anticipating day trips to Veterans’ Memorial Park to play in the Splash Park or fish at the fishing pond, and the little T-ball and beginner softball kids are already practicing in their front yards.

Any man, women or child in Boulder City who can’t find something to entertain themselves isn’t looking in the right places. The Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department offers so many services and wonderful facilities, we should all give thanks that we live in such a fabulous community.
