Library Offerings
Yes, the Library has a lot of books and you can probably find something interesting to take home and read. But suppose you want to read your book but you really have to cook all afternoon for tonight’s dinner party.
For you, the Library has “audiobooks.” Audiobooks are books read to an audio medium, either cassette or CD. Perhaps you’ve decided to drive up to San Francisco and would rather not listen to daytime talk radio all the way up and back. Audiobooks can help exercise your brain during your trip. Or maybe you’ve got a job that involves staring at a computer screen all day long. When you get home, you’re cross-eyed and although you really want to relax with a book, your eyes won’t let you. Audiobooks are the answer. Mom is coming to visit from Thanksgiving 'till Christmas. Mom loves her mystery stories but doesn’t see too well anymore. Audiobooks are the answer!

The Library has around 2,000 audiobooks for your listening enjoyment. Most of these are cassette audiobooks, but we are ordering more and more of these in CD format, as the industry transitions away from cassette audio tape. Most of the Library’s audiobooks are fiction (novels), although we do have a pretty good selection of self-help and pop psychology titles also.

To play an audiobook, all you need is a standard cassette player for the cassette items or a CD player for the CD items. Pop it in, adjust the volume and sit back and relax!

For those of us with visual acuity issues who prefer a more traditional way of reading a good book, the Library also owns many thousands of large-print books. Again, most of these are novels, although the Library does have some nonfiction items in large-print format.

Audiobooks and large-print books are checked out by the Library the same way and for the same loan period (3 weeks) as other books in the Library.
