To enjoy the season, set a pace and budget that are comfortable for you. There are lots of ways to express joy without over-extending energetically or financially. Simply spending time with friends and family can be one of the most rewarding ways to celebrate. Practice the middle way; don’t eat or drink too much, and find the balance between activity and rest. If it sounds like a relief to scale back on celebrations, decide what events are important to you, and then relax a little bit and let things unfold. Try to really appreciate all of the people you are with, in the spirit of celebration.
If you are away from your dear ones, or you feel left out during the holidays, make it a point to connect with people. The intention and attitude that we bring to our life and to the holidays make all the difference in the world. Recognize miracles all around you; this is a key to happiness. Bring cookies to your neighbors and co-workers. Smile even if you don’t want to; it can really help you feel better. Smiling is so contagious. See how many people you can make smile in a day. Do something nice for somebody. When we help other people, we feel such a sense of connectedness and true joy. We all have the opportunity to create new traditions that are meaningful to us and to truly enjoy the holidays.
