I was born and raised in California and had an early interest in photography. My folks helped with cameras and darkroom equipment and I spent all my extra time and money on photographic events and equipment. I probably spent too much time in my darkroom when I should have been studying. I was school photographer (Los Angeles Pacific College/High School) until graduation.
After graduation I joined the Air Force (during the Korean war) and suddenly became a radio operator. My photography took a back seat until many years later.
While in the Air Force I took up oil painting and studied under Ina Hoak, a prominent artist in Anchorage, Alaska. I retired in Alaska and was manager-artist for Gallery 20, Inc., a cooperative gallery that boasted two locations. My specialty was speed paintings of Mount McKinley which was great fun for me. I painted the mountain in less than 15 minutes hundreds of times.
