Gift for Travelers

It’s that time again… time to pick out that perfect gift for the traveler in your life. Here are a few suggestions, all for $25 or less.

Technology is apparently here to stay, and not just for the young folks anymore. Almost everyone I know, even at 60 or 70+, including myself, take their mobile phones, and/or iPads with them on their travels, all of which need to be charged. Most cameras have batteries that need to be charged too. Hotels often have too few wall outlets, so a small multi-plug and USB strip is pretty much a necessity nowadays. The best one I have found – small and lightweight – is the Belkin 3 Outlet Mini SurgePlus Protector. Price: $20 or less on Amazon.

Deep-vein thrombosis is a concern for anyone who travels, young or old. One way to keep this condition at bay is to wear Support Socks. Not just for the plane, they can be worn all day to minimize fatigue. And guess what? It works. They come in many colors and styles, as you can see in this picture of a chevron pattern from magellans.com. I love the ones made with bamboo. Price: $25 or less.
I don’t use hair dryers or curling irons, but many of my clients do, and this is always problematic, causing blown-out fuses and melted curling irons. Two ladies on my last Tuscany trip had the answer – at least for a curling iron. Turns out there is a cordless model that uses a butane cartridge (one cartridge is permitted in checked or carry-on luggage). Price: $25 on magellans.com.

Another item I learned about, from a person on my Turkey/Greece tour this past June, is a flexible, freezable, reusable water bottle. It stands upright when filled, and rolls or stores flat when empty. It holds 16 oz and has a carabiner clip for easy carrying. Price: $10 or less on Amazon.

Finally, for a nice little stocking stuffer (for less than $3/100), consider picking up some 2”x3” reclosable jewelry bags from Marlis at Craft Cottage here in Boulder City (1326 Wyoming). They make wonderful (and reusable) daily pill holders.
