Spring Jamboree 2013
An Event Not To Be Missed

By Jill Rowland-Lagan

Have you found the cold, windy, winter has slowed you down and mellowed your pace? Are you looking for that special activity or event to help put a little more bounce into your pounce? Then I’ve got just the thing for you...Spring Jamboree 2013. Come add a little spring to your step and get out and see the beautiful weather and brightly colored flowers. This has got to be the best time of the year in Boulder City and this year’s Spring Jamboree will be a great way for you to celebrate! I can’t think of a finer time to join your friends and neighbors in the clean, green parks of the Historic District and soak in the warm sun, great entertainment, fun carnival rides, festival food, talented artisans, historic antiques, gleaming gun supplies, and stunning hot rods.

There are so many activities that are now associated with Spring Jam, I’m not even sure where to begin. How about May 3rd, that seems to be the best place to start.  As you drive by the government parks, you’ll see quite a buzz as we begin the tremendous job of setting up for such a large event. It’s always interesting to watch our beautiful lawns transform into marketplaces, stages, rides and car displays. If you’re a local business in Boulder, you’ll probably get to meet some of the artists that will be in town that week. They always request information about retail, restaurants, hotels/motels and things to do while they spend the weekend learning more about our quaint town.

Saturday, May 4th, you’re going to want to get out of your pj’s early and head to the park. Entertainment begins at 9am and won’t quit until we’re exhausted from the one and only Movies in the Park on the gigantic 65 foot inflatable screen. Watch the ads to learn what FREE, family movie will be showing at 7:30pm that night.  Throughout the day there will be many locals performing and, of course, the traditional Little Miss and Mister Contest and the beloved Bark in the Park with proceeds going to See Spot Run again this year. When you’re not relaxing at the stage, you can enjoy the exhilarating carnival rides, jumping on the bungee trampoline, strolling through the Arts and Crafts, Antiques in the Park, Pandraggers Rod Run car show and Boulder City’s first Gun Show. Every year each of these fun attractions get bigger and better.  And the best part is, strolling through the event is FREE.  I can’t think of a better way to enjoy spring in Boulder City than a fun, family, festival in the park.

Sunday is my favorite day to walk around the Old Town area and visit with the merchants and restaurants. You can often see great sidewalk sales and enjoy a few minutes on a shady bench while people-watching as our guests enjoy Boulder City. As you head back over to the happening event area, the excitement continues throughout the afternoon until sadly the end must come at 4pm.

This year will be the 36th Annual Spring Jamboree, but will be the first year the event will include a gun show for those enthusiasts. It will be produced by Rocky Mountain Gun Shows and will be in the Recreation Department gymnasiums. This new addition will be just one more way to invite every member of the family to the park with something to peak their interests. Crafts and antiques for mom, rides for the kids, gun show for dad, entertainment for grandma, and car show for grandpa. Or should that be gun show for grandma and car show for mom...well maybe your family members are planning to attend each area of interest...I know I am!

How great it is that the Boulder City residents and guests to our town have supported us in so many ways.  Not only by shopping local with our members, but also by participating in all the special events in our community. Events bring tourism, tourism brings revenue, and revenue means a healthy economy for Boulder City.

Boulder City is quite lucky to have so many wonderful organizations that provide awesome special events to our residents. Whether this spring you enjoy strolling through fine art at the Fine Arts Festival, watching the sun rise over Lake Mead, relaxing in a comfy dining chair at one of the many sidewalk cafes, or joining us at the 36th Annual Spring Jamboree for tons of fun...Boulder City has something to offer everyone. Don’t miss a thing!!!
