New Classes

Two new classes are forming at the Recreation Department utilizing the time and talent of two dynamic instructors. With a passion for life that is contagious, instructor Lynn Williams brings a breath of fresh air to a new line dancing class for Boulder City residents on Monday nights 7-8pm at the Nevada Way Recreation Building (DWP Bldg.) starting May 19th. This class is offered at a nominal charge of $5 per lesson, per week when paid monthly in advance and $7 for drop in students.

Hold onto your hat and kick up your heels for a foot stomping good time with “Line Dancing * Dance Night.” The first Dance Night will take place on Saturday, May 19th at the same location as the class. A free class is offered from 6-7pm with dancing from 7-9pm for $5. Dance Night will be offered the second Saturday each month starting June 9th.

Kids can feel stress intensely, and it takes the same toll on them as it does on adults. Mindful Yoga for Kids is a simple and fun yoga program for children K-5th grade with an aim to develop awareness of the connection between the body, the breath and the mind. This class incorporates stories, music and asana (yoga exercises) to help children to focus their attention, quiet their mind, increase flexibility and develop skills to cope with life’s everyday stresses. It is done with a dash of silliness and oodles of fun with a goal of calmer, happier children.

Instructor Lee Ann Maynard has been a yoga practitioner for 20 years with extensive focus and training in the Viniyoga field for the past 6 years.  Teaching our younger generation how to focus on their mind and breathing techniques in a way that reduces stress is a gift they will benefit from their entire life. Classes start Saturday, May 5th for a fee of $28 per month.

It’s never too early to start planning for upcoming summer children’s activities and the Parks and Recreation Department has many offerings to keep children engaged with peers and learning new skills. The Summer Parks Program will run June 11 - August 24th from 7am – 6pm and offers a variety of fun activities, arts & crafts all in a friendly and safe environment. Please register in advance for classes at the Recreation Department at 900 Arizona Street or for more information call 293-9256.
