The Benefits Are Endless

The March – August 2012 Parks and Recreation Department is now available at the Recreation Department Office at 900 Arizona Street or you can view it on the City website at bcnv.org. Reap the endless benefits of recreation by participating in the many programs our department has to offer.

The pool’s Parent and Baby/Tot program, as well as Level 1, has serviced nearly 150 SNICC grant participants over the past 2 years. The Boulder City Pool will again receive a $1,500 grant from the Southern Nevada International Code Council (SNICC) to provide swim lessons for non-swimmers, ages 4 and under, free of charge.  Funding and space is limited, and some restrictions apply.

A Water Safety Instructor class will be offered at the Boulder City Pool April 2-6, 2012 for 16. Each year the American Red Cross teaches more than 2 million children and adults to swim.  Red Cross Water Safety Instructors are in demand throughout the country, and certification is recognized nationwide, so you can work wherever you go.  Call 293-9286 for more information.

Get out your dancing shoes, beginning Wednesday, March 7, a new group ballroom dance class for ages 16+ will be launched. Each week introduces two new dances with repetitive pattern-work and new steps. Private individual and small group dance lessons are available.

Beginning in March, 2-day canyoneering courses will be offered that provide basic instruction in rappelling, knot tying, anchors & rigging, up and down climbing and self-rescue techniques required to participate in our meetups that provide hands on experience. Canyoneering is adventure recreation in your own backyard.

Two events to put on your calendar are the April 14th “Let’s Move Outside and Go Fishing” event and April 21st “Jimmie Lopez Memorial Tennis Tournament.”
