Cruising - Part 1 of 2

Although I am not a cruiser I know many of you are, or want to be, so let’s chat. An article I read recently pointed out several good things cruises have to offer, five of which are listed below.

Travel Far, Unpack Once: A great alternative to hauling luggage around on planes, trains, and automobiles, spending one or two nights in a hotel, just to get up and do it all over again, on a cruise you will unpack once, yet spend each day of your trip in a different port or country.

Value for Money: Dollar for dollar, cruising is exceptional value for money, with ships ranging from basic to six-star, and many fares including everything you could possibly need for a great trip. They include accommodations, food, daily activities, nightly entertainment, transportation between destinations, and some even include flights where needed.

The Destinations: Cruising offers travelers the opportunity of visiting a number of diverse places in a single trip. Few land-based holiday options offer the opportunity of going snorkeling on a reef one day, shopping for local handicrafts in a rural village the next, exploring ancient ruins in a great city the day after, and rounding every day off back on board with a cocktail by the pool watching the sun go down.

Floating Resorts for All: Cruising is no longer just for the “overfed and nearly dead.” Cruise lines now target different types of cruisers from singles and couples, to families with kids. The ships come in many different shapes and sizes, from exclusive 16-guest expedition vessels to uber-liners carrying over 5000.

Do as Much or as Little as you Please: Cruising is very social, or not, depending on your mood or circumstances. It can also be romantic, offering couples some downtime together, or even a honeymoon. Like being busy? Today’s ships can have you on the go 24/7. Which cruise line and ship you choose will determine if you can enjoy it your way, though, so we’ll discuss that next month.

You won’t find cruises on driftersister.com, but you will find some reasonably priced, small-group tours.
