The Arts by Judy Barton Boulder City Art Guild Art in Boulder City - Scholarships for Art Students Attention high school seniors (and parents). Did you know that the Boulder City Art Guild offers $1000 per year in scholarships for students pursuing a career in art? Two major projects fund these scholarships.

The money generated by the Spring Art Festival goes toward college scholarships for deserving and talented students in high school/college art. Currently there are six students who are benefiting from the Guild efforts. Christina McGahen, a senior, is presently attending UNR, Katelin Jelks, a junior, is at UNLV, and Gracie Wingert, a sophomore, is at UNLV with aspirations of becoming a graphic designer.

Veronica Liwski, a sophomore at Laguna College of Art and Design, is seeking a Fine Arts Degree and hoping to become an Illustrator, while Diana Kresge, a freshman, has the goal of working for the motion picture industry as a storyboard artist. Abigail Guida graduated from Coronado High School and will be a freshman at UNLV this year with aspirations of working as a Glass Artist and Interior Designer.

Former scholarship recipient, Daniel Gill, graduated last spring Magna Cum Laud from Southern Utah University with a BFA in Graphic Design and a minor in Marketing. He plans to go to work for Environmental Systems Research Institute in Redlands, California in their Graphic Design Group. A student receiving a scholarship must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better each semester and be enrolled in at least two fine art classes per semester. They must re-apply each year to renew the scholarship. College students as well as high school seniors are eligible to apply. The Guild also sponsors the Winterfest Art Show in November. The money raised there is donated to the art program run by Robin Karim at the ABC park facilities for scholarships to help fund promising younger artists who cannot afford the class fees.
