Simple Pleasures
Gymnastics is one of the longest running programs offered at the Recreation Department. When I was a little girl in Boulder City, I took gymnastics classes here at the Recreation Department.

Although my class was held in the room on the opposite side of the building from where we hold classes today, the room still holds the same charm with wood floors and large sunny windows. The gymnastics classroom of my youth had once been my third grade classroom with Mrs. Sutherland. I loved my gymnastics class just the way our students do today.

Gymnastics classes start for children as young as 18 months old. In this class, parent participation is required. This is a great way for parents to spend focused time with their child and a perfect opportunity to meet new people.

Little gymnasts then graduate to a class that parents are not required to attend. This is a great way to transition a toddler to independent activities. Instructor Missy Mojica is great with these little kids. Parents are often amazed at how she keeps them moving and organized.

Once skills are at an appropriate level, students move to classes with instructor Miss Brandy, who works wonders in building a student’s self-confidence. When registering a child, a parent told me how gymnastics had instilled such a level of confidence in her child that this confidence was spilling into all aspects of her life. In thanks, this child made a card to give to Miss Brandy. I too can speak from experience as to the amazing bond these kids build with instructor Miss Brandy. You see, my youngest daughter Tricia took gymnastics classes with Miss Brandy for many years. Now as a young women of 21, she loves to visit the gymnastics classes and is able to demonstrate gymnastic stunts for the students. Needless to say, without daily training, she often pays for her enthusiasm with sore muscles.
