|Neat Nevada Notes: Our beautiful Red Rock Canyon was officially recognized in 1967, and became a National Conservation Area about 1990. Home to Mojave Max, his various Desert Tortoise relatives, Burros, Bunnies and Big Horn Sheep, this stunning area took millions of years to evolve. At about 13 miles, the Scenic Loop Drive takes in only a tiny portion of the 130 square miles of Mother Nature’s finest. The Visitor’s Center has lots of information, and great shopping opportunities, including a Mojave Max section. Overseen by the Bureau of Land Management, the entrance fee is only $5 per car. Hiking and rock climbing challenge your body and petroglyphs will challenge your imagination! About 18 miles west of the Strip on West Charleston, take SR 159 to the Visitor’s Center. 702.515.5378 for program times and activity reservations. www.mojavemax.com has a cool webcam and check out the Emergence Contest. March is the perfect month to visit before summer erupts!
