The Arts by Judy Barton Boulder City Art Guild Artist Profile - Georgine Morelli Exciting, bold colors emphasize the Southwest-themed work of Georgine Morelli, one of Boulder City’s more illustrious artists. She is well known throughout the region.

During March through April she will be the “Featured Artist” for the Boulder City Art Gallery located in the Boulder Dam Hotel. Everyone is invited to her reception at the Gallery on Saturday, March 13 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

One of her more dramatic renderings, “Masks,” illustrates the plight of the Southwest Indians in haunting images of the various tribal masks. They are grouped together on a large format and present a memory not easily forgotten. The graphic technique used by Georgine relays a stoic, yet emotional image. She uses bold, stylized images to depict a life of intrepid perseverance. Another of her works, “Blanket Explosion” bursts from the format in a fusion of color and symbols creating a puzzle for the viewer to decipher. It is a happy painting and gives joy just to look at it.

Georgine is an artist who has been producing art her entire life. She credits a great high school art teacher for her basic knowledge, but most of the creativity and uniqueness comes from experimentation and self-teaching. Georgine has shown her work throughout the Southwest, in galleries, at art festivals and one-woman showings. She will be in the upcoming Boulder City Art Festival April 17 and 18 and will be featured with her daughter, Debbie Hagen, a potter, at the Valley of Fire in October. Her work may also be seen at the Henderson Rustic Living Furniture store. Georgine is presently serving on the board of the Boulder City Art Guild as Co-Membership and Hospitality Chairman.
