Registration for the Summer Reading programs begin on Friday, June 11. Everyone can win by visiting the Library.
Prizes for readers up to 15 years old include a video camera, MP3 Players, bikes, gift cards, movie passes, free tickets to Titanic and Bodies at the Luxor, Lake Mead Cruises tickets, and more. Readers ages 16 and above will have the opportunity to win gift cards, tickets to Titanic and Bodies at the Luxor, Lake Mead Cruises tickets, local dining certificates including dinner for 2 at Benihana at the LV Hilton, and finally, 2 passes for your choice of shows at the Hilton Theatre at the Las Vegas Hilton.
The Library will offer loads of special programs during June and July. The Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay will present “Discoveries from the Deep.” The Southern Nevada Water Authority will present programs about the Wetlands and Wash area. The Nevada Park Service offers “Saved by the Jacket”, “Mojave Max and His Cousins”, “Fishing Fun” and “Rocks for Rock Stars”. We will be visited by storytellers Ladye Fettiplace and Jim Cogan, and Magician Tony Daniels. We will offer our regular story times and several craft programs for children and teenagers. The Library even has a Guitar Hero Rock Star program planned! Be sure to pick up a schedule of events at the Library.
The Library is very excited to offer two new book clubs. Our Jr. High club is for young people in grades 6-8. The Teen club is for grades 9-12.
A special offer is being made by the Luxor. By showing your library card at the Luxor box office, you can get a ticket to either the Titanic Exhibition or the Bodies Exhibition for only $16.50 (one card per ticket). The tickets’ regular cost are $20-$28.
