National Night Out Honors Hoover Dam Workers
Mark your calendar for Tuesday, August 3 for National Night Out from 6-9 pm at Veterans’ Memorial Park. I asked Event Coordinator Officer Jen Ford to share a few word with us on this event.

“National Night Out was created to strengthen the partnership between police and members of the community. For National Night Out 2010 we have reached out to the National Park Service and Hoover Dam Police Departments and asked them to come celebrate with us. They’ve accepted our invitation and are eagerly looking forward to the opportunity of getting to know the community they serve as well.”

The timing for this outreach is perfect as the community celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Hoover Dam. As I’ve mentioned before, Boulder City is the first place to have a lighted ball field outside of the professional realm as the men who worked on Hoover Dam worked three eight-hour shifts, 364 days a year, taking only Christmas day off. Plus, in some of the writings of very early workers, men stated they were bored by the lack of recreation. This year’s National Night Out is dedicated to the men who worked on Hoover Dam and used those very first lighted ball fields.

National Night Out has turned into a true community event with: a Softball Game, Boating Safety and Free Life Vests, Rock Climbing Wall, BBQ/Refreshments, Dunk Tank, Car Seat Inspections, Face Painting, Child ID Kits, Mercy Air Landing & Helicopter Tour, Sky Dive Las Vegas Demo, Champion Motorsports Giveaways and a K9 Demo.

This is America’s favorite pastime at its best with adults and youths enjoying Boulder City police and firefighters, Park Service and Hoover Dam police, all coming together for no other reason than to simply build relationships within our community.

Each and every person in Boulder City can benefit from this event. Really, you don’t want to miss it.Come join us for a night dedicated to building good relationships throughout the community.
