When The Season Moves You
I find it curious how I can breeze through the holiday season on automatic pilot mimicking what I do from one year to the next, then that burst of energy, those creative juices, or the inspiration to break out of the norm, just hits me like a ton of bricks. It’s a great feeling.

The season is upon us so I’d like to recommend a few classes to move you into the holiday spirit. Look to the Art Center. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to give a hand made gift.

Let’s take a look at the kind of gifts you can make at the Art Center. The first one is always a winner. Soy candles are non-toxic and burn cleaner, cooler and longer than paraffin candles and offer a gift anyone and everyone will enjoy. Making jewelry is always a big hit with the ladies. Learn to wire wrap stone pendants with silver, beading with natural stones and crystals or make glass cabochons to incorporate into earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Last, you will be amazed at what you can make in the beginner glass class. You will create 5 cabochon pins, 1 cracked glass bowl, 1 wall hanging and 1 slumped dish, all of which make terrific gifts.Taking this one step further, giving of ones self is the best gift of all so invite a friend for twice the fun.

All of these classes are offered in early November through December 10th. If you find you can’t squeeze a class in your busy schedule, you can still give a one of a kind hand made gift by attending the Art Center Twilight Bazaar Saturday, December 12, from 2-7 pm at the Art Center located at 801 Adams Blvd. Enjoy a holiday cookie while you shop for gifts by our talented artists and students.

The Recreation Department offers gift certificates for all of our programs. Do you want to give a gift to someone who has everything? We have a great option for you to consider. You can look through our donation list and purchase an item the entire city will benefit from in the name of your special person who has everything. There is a wide range of pricing options. You can purchase items like youth sports equipment, park benches, fund a 31’ers Educational Outreach prop and everything in between. If you want to help a needy family, you can contribute to our scholarship fund that supports youth programs in sports, classes, and Safekey.
